I'm a student at Leeds University hailing from Manchester and Wire is one of my favourite clubs in Leeds. If you're from Manchester and are looking for an alternative to 42's or The Venue then this is the place to go (it's better than both).

I'm into all styles of music, and Wire on a Thursday usually fits the bill. Playing a variety of styles and mixing fresh new stuff with some student favourites. However, I have been once recently and the DJ was having a nightmare, playing loads of old Motown and old rock anthems. Sure I don't mind the odd song to break things up or to fill time when the club isn't busy but it was about an hours worth when the club was full, forcing us to leave early.

The club itself is amazing. Quite small but I like clubs this way. It's set underground too (you walk down a set of stairs when entering). The decor is fantastically cool. Lots of arches and subtle lighting. If you don't want to dance then there are 'alcoves' set just off the dance floor with tables big enough to seat 8. Apparently there is an upstairs too but it has never been open when I've been.

The crowd varies but generally it's a good crowd. The bouncers seem friendly enough and prices are just about reasonable. I'm happy to pay more for drinks when the venue is this good though. There is only one bar but staff are quick and friendly and queues don't last long in my experience.

It's in a good location too, just over the road from Blue Rinse at the Corn Exchange, with a friendly bar next door. We usually start the night with a few cheap cocktails at Mook or Oporto just 2 minutes away before heading down to Wire.

If you prefer smaller clubs and have an alternate taste in music Wire is great. I'd also recommend Faversham on a Tuesday.
