The staff were rude and just generally awful, my mate saw one of them drop some food on the floor then try and serve it. You couldn't pay me to go back

This place seems to have been around in various guises for donkeys years, I remember it as the Guildford Hotel, but its modern incarnation as the Northern Monkey seems to be a popular one.

Visited a couple of times over the last week, it was busy both times. Banksy-esque artwork hangs on the walls and there is also a footballing overtone, Leeds United and Rangers FC being the teams in question. Nothing out of the ordinary drinks wise, all the usual suspects are on show, though there is an appetite for cocktails also.

First visit was during lunchtime, it was one of those occasions when the food ordered more than hit the spot, but there were tinges of jealousy when some of the other plates were delivered, the burgers looked particularly enticing.

Returned a couple of evenings later, there was an excellent selection of music on show, tunes from Weller, the Madchester era and neglected indie classics reviving the post-work atmosphere.

A refreshing change from the soul-less chain pubs and bars that are prevalent around the Headrow.

The bar looks decent when you first walk in they’ve really made an effort decorating the place. However thats it when it comes to positives, the bar staff were moody the beer overpriced and the glasses dirty. Never going back

The burger I had here was very good indeed.
