Having eaten at Del Verde Restaurant on many occasions and been highly satisfied, it was the obvious venue to choose for our Golden Wedding Anniversary Celebration. The lunch for our thirty-five guests was discussed beforehand and Kevin, the chef, along with his wife, Helen, could not have been more helpful as we agreed a suitable menu and how we would like the event to go.
We arrived to be greeted warmly and to find the presentation of the dining area first class. The staff were friendly and attentive, taking great care to identify the few guests with dietary needs, service of the meal and the drinks was to a high standard and the quality of the food was truly great.
The care, warmth and good humour shown by the staff at Del Verde helped t make the occasion a memorable one and many of our guests commented on what an excellent venue we had chosen.
Friends had urged me to try Del Verde but I'd always resisted because I don't like most Italian food and Italian restaurants. However, my two daughters and a grand-daughter were coming to visit. All three are vegetarians and as such are not well catered for at other restaurants in the area. I looked at all the local restaurants' menus and, much to my surprise, Del Verde had dishes that I thought I would enjoy and by far the widest choice of vegetarian food.
On Wednesday morning I telephoned to book a table for Saturday evening and, such is the popularity of the place, there was only one time available 20:15, rather later than I had wanted.
As we approached the restaurant I began to worry that I might have made a mistake. It is tucked away, almost hidden at the end of the car park behind the rather industrial style buildings of the golf course. There was a strong scent of cannabis from behind the bushes.
Once inside all worries vanished. We received a warm but not gushing welcome in the small but comfortable bar/reception area. Our table was not ready on time. I can't blame the occupants for lingering. As an apology we were given olives and nibbles while we waited. The dining room was comfortable, well decorated and well laid out. The owners have wisely resisted the temptation to squeeze in as many tables as possible.
I chose the trio of fish. The girls each found a different dish to their liking; even the 11 year old, who must be the only veggie ever who won't eat tomatoes or mushrooms (there was plenty of choice for them).
The food was extremely well cooked and presented; the house wine delicious and good value and the service impecccable. A first rate experience. We, like our predecessorss lingered, reluctant to leave.
That was 9 days ago. I've been back twice since and will go again.
Well done to all
Food was gorgeous, generous sized portions, full after the starter!
We visited on a Saturday evening, after making a last-minute reservation. We booked for 6.15pm and were the only customers until about 7pm. Despite this, the friendly staff created an excellent atmosphere.
The menu was not huge but provided plenty of options for all five of us, including one vegetarian. There was a good specials board and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals.
The waitress was very attentive but not to the point of being annoying. The only small problem was later, when the restaurant became much busier - it took some time for us to attract anyone's attention to request the bill, and then we ended up going to pay at the bar because nobody came to take the payment. However, waiting wasn't much of a hardship because of the views over the golf course (and the entertaining golfers) .
I would certainly visit again - good food, reasonable prices and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
Great food. Friendly family service. Generous portions of fresh tasty Italian/Mediterranean themed dishes at reasonable prices.
Discovered this small restaurant back in January & have been back several times since. A refreshing change to the 'chain' Italian competition in North Leeds.
We haven't had a bad meal from every visit (& I'm very picky), the only criticism I would have is that the portions are a bit on the big side - hate leaving good food on the plate!
This restaurant seems to be a well kept secret in Roundhay but if you value substance and quality it is really worth a visit.
