This is the best Indian ever! The staff are awesome & the food rules :) Go on Wednesday/sunday & get a pickly tray & poppodoms, a starter, main with rice or naan & veg of the day, coffee & ice cream for £10.00! The super Brucy bonus is that it is byob! How you can complain when you you can take your own beer!
We travel from Castleford to see Sham and the team on a regular basis. We know Sham from when he worked at a similar establishment in Castleford. We wouldn't travel this far if the experience was not worth it.
There is always a warm welcome and the food is excellent, despite what one reviewer would have you believe.
In July 2009 Desi Masala moved 50 yards up the road to a much bigger place. The environment there is excellent.
The food.... well, you tell me if you've had better.
Its well worth travelling a bit just to try this eating experience.
It's one of our favourites. Great place to eat, excellent customer service from all the staff, they serve fab food, ideal take-aways too for those lazy evenings! Desi Masala is the answer to superb Indian food.
WE HAVE BEEN GOING TO DESI MASALA NOW SINCE THEY OPENED APPROX 2 YEARS AGO VISITING EVERY 2 WEEKS SOMETIMES MORE.
THE STAFF ARE VERY FRIENDLY AND ARE NOW MORE LIKE FRIENDS. THE FOOD IS ONLY WHAT I CAN DESCRIBE AS BEING SUPERB THE BEST I HAVE EVER TASTED AND I HAVE EATEN INDIAN FOOD ACCROSS THE GLOBE AND IN MANY TYPES OF RESTEURANTS, MUMTAZ,AKHBAR,AAGRAH,SHEESH MAHAL TO NAME BUT A FEW BUT NONE AS GOOD AS DESIS IF YOU DONT TRY ANYWERE ELSE TRY DESIS YOU WILL RETURN.
I HAVE TO COMMENT ON THE REVIEW THAT THE INDIAN FAMILY LEFT I WONDER IF THEY HAVE A RESTERAUNT AND IS JUST SOUR GRAPES BECAUSE THEY CANT COMPETE.
THE PORTION SIZES ARE SPOT ON I CAN NEVER EAT ALL THAT IS PUT IN FRONT OF ME AND I DO HAVE A GOOD APPETITE.
THE PRICES THEY CHARGE ARE EXACTLY WHAT I WOULD EXPECT TO PAY GIVEN THE HIGHEST QUALITY OF THE FOOD. QUITE OFTEN I TAKE WORK COLLEGUES FROM BRIGHTON,FRANCE LUXEMBOURG,IRELAND,HOLLAND, THEY CANT ALL BE WRONG IN THERE PRAISE FOR DESI MASALA AS BEING SUPERB.
WELL DONE SHAM , CHEEKY BOY, AND THE REST OF THE STAFF KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. GRAHAM GERALDINE JESSICA AND OLIVIA
Not many times do I actually take the time to write a review on restaurants but I felt from the experience that we had that this needed to be posted.
We called ahead to ensure that we had reserve seats and told them that we had a child and a baby.
On arrival we were given a table and told that they had no high chairs. Urrm.
Wished we were told when we booked.
Misunderstanding maybe on both sides.Anyway on with the experience, the menu was pretty typical of a 'English' Indian restaurant with many variations of dishes.
We ordered starters first and had a long wait before it arrived, first thing that struck us was the size of the portions (kids size?) for example the Chicken tikka had 4 small pieces of chicken.
The lamb chops were dry and not tender, masala fish was also dry and pretty tough. Not much evidence of fresh ingredients being used apart from the salad and surplus fried onions. So to finish off the starters were pretty unimpressive and served in small portions.
I hoped the main course would be better. Having asked the waiter for which dishes were more akin to traditional cooking we went with the recommendations.
I was happy to say that the mains were better than the starters. But to be honest they all tasted pretty much similar. Again very little evidence of fresh ingredients being used and therefore more use of powder spices.
The restaurant allows you to bring your own drinks and this certainly helps attract the customer in. However be warned, when you look at the size of the portions in comparison with the price you certainly are paying 'corkage' indirectly by incorporating into the price of the dishes.
We are an Asian family living in Leeds who regularly eat out to different restaurants couple of times a month. Places like Saffron and Akbars Cafe in Bradford are leagues ahead and set the standard to good quality Indian food.
I can't bel
Amazing Indian food; in fact the best I have ever tasted. The service is amazing and you can bring your own drinks.
Every dish I have tried I have loved. The place is always busy and if it was larger in size it would still be packed.
If you haven't already been - get yourself there!
The food is superb always. Simply the best asian restaurant in the area.
Well worth a visit. The staff are helpful and friendly. The service is first class. Five Stars!

I have tasted indian food across the world "USA, Hong Kong, most of Europe and many of the UK's best "London, Leeds, Bradford, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow"
I always love a take away from this local restaurant "the menu offers both old classics as well as some new styles - be sure to try something new?
well done all at Desi Massal - keep up the great work and high standards
Morleys best by far
