Westwood Durex Event in Leeds

He may seem like an unlikely champion of safe sex but rap legend Tim Westwood is highlighting the importance of wearing condoms on his return to Leeds this month. The Westwood Durex Event in Leeds on Friday, 27th February is part of the subtly titled 'Strap it Up Before You Slap it Up' campaign, which will see the Radio One DJ travelling around the country spreading the safer sex message. He's also planning to go to some of the UK's holiday hotspots to spread the word. That sounds like a wise idea because we all know us Brits seem to get friskier than most after a day of lounging in the sun. Back here in the UK I think the Westwood Durex Event in Leeds will be less glamorous and sultry. The DJ, who also presents Pimp My Ride on MTV, will turn up at Gatecrasher in a tour van which has been 'pimped' by Durex. As I said, not so glamorous.

Although the Westwood Durex Event Leeds is part of a safer sex message, it should be a good night out. As in previous years, Westwood will be headlining at the club's regular RnB night - Pashion.  If you've made it along before (or even if you haven't) you'll know these nights get very busy, and messy. But seriously, the Westwood Durex Event in Leeds isn't just an excuse to go to Gatecrasher and behave like a loon. It's part of a UK-wide tour which, it is hoped, will reach more than a quarter of a million people. Westwood and his team will be giving out flyers and free condoms to clubbers to encourage the practise of safer sex. But these aren't just any condoms. No, at the Westwood Durex Event in Leeds, the 'Big Dog' will be giving out his own specially produced condoms. Durex have made 100,000 of the little blighters, and they're branded with the 'Strap it up...' message.

Westwood said: "The tour is crazy fun and probably one of the most important things I've ever done. People love the Westwood branded condoms and 'strap it up before you slap it up' has become the slogan for a hot night or a holiday romance!" No doubt he'll also be doing a few 'shout-outs' during his set at Gatecrasher, so if you do get lucky on the night you'll have no excuse. You might, however, suffer from a few 'distracting' thoughts later on - you might even hear Westwood doing a shout-out in your head at the crucial moment. Now that would be an effective safe sex message.

Westwood will be at Pashion at Gatecrasher from 10.30pm-4am, 27th February. Tickets cost £12 before 11.30pm, and £15 after. Concessions are available.
