Okay pub - but shame about some off the staff. The foods leaves a lot to be desired also. The only real plus is the price of beer and the closeness to the University.
The Eldon is amazing. I lived close in my first year so it was my local. From the outside it looks like a standard pub and can imagine it being a little bit rough inside but it's the complete opposite.
I imagine a lot has been spent on the inside. The decor is fantastically homely and the atmosphere is perfect. Because it is so close to the Uni it does get very busy on Champions League nights, busy meaning you can't get in (mostly international students from St Marks). But for Premier League matches it is usually just busy enough to have a decent atmosphere.
You get a wide variety of people in The Eldon, locals and lots of students. It's also one of the Otley Run pubs so you can expect to see some strange attire on an evening. The staff are all friendly and the food is excellent. Drink prices have increased recently, pints of Fosters used to be £1 after 6pm every day, but now it's just Tuesdays I think. Still, pints are around the £2 mark which is still really cheap.
On a Monday is the Eldon pub quiz hosted by a charming fellow and provides a whole host of challenging questions. Sometimes the turn out isn't up to much, but hopefully they'll start attracting more teams.
There are about 4 TV's in the Eldon which is impressive as it's a small pub and a projector screen, all of which are used for football or Sky Sports News. On Champions League nights they have 2 TV's with one game and 2 with the other, so you won't miss your favourite team. There is also a quality jukebox and the all important Pub Quiz machine which never fails to entertain. There is however no pool table or darts board.
Overall, The Eldon is by far my favourite pub in Leeds. The atmosphere is great, the interior is fantastic, the prices are really cheap and they have Sky Sports. Nothing more I could want. If you are close to the Uni, come here. It's miles better than The Library.
