Been there many times. We'll always give a venue a second chance when things go wrong. It's a lovely venue and we therefore have given it at least four more chances! There are far too many things wrong with the food though and the word "inconsistent" would sum it up. Everything from minute portions of veg, chips, fish, stinginess (charging something like 40p for an extra peice of bread to go with a starter which didn't have a fair amount, over serious waitresses on occasion. Sad because it's a place I'd like to go to more often, but enough is enough. It needs a different approach from the top.
Regular visitors of the white house and very rarely disappointed with food or service. However, we have all found one female member of management is unfriendly, unapproachable and makes us feel that we are an inconvenience. Such a shame when the white house is outstanding in most other areas!
We haven't actually visited this establishment, I had been recommended the White House by relative who went about 18 months ago and loved it. Unfortunately when I telephoned to make a booking for a special birthday, being that I have some food intolerance's I needed to make sure that they could cope with my diet; the person who answered my telephone call informed me that they couldn't cope with my diet as their food came in from an outside supplier! My opinion of that is that they do not have a qualified chef on site because he/she would have been able to provide me with suitable food. Therefore we will not be visiting them and I would not recommend anyone who might have any sort of intolerance/allergy to go there. Incidentally we went to the Roundhay Fox who provided a brilliant meal and did not find my diet a problem. Enough said!
My husband and I were in need of good pub fish and chips. After finding the roundhay fox had run out, we decided to try here. We were bitterly disappointed. It was ready almost immediately, suggesting it had been sitting waiting in the oven. The fish was tasteless, minimal and of slimy consistency, almost inedible, the chips tasted greasy and you could taste the oil. The mushy peas and tartar sauce were excellent though! Some consolation. When pubs do fish and chips well, it can be unmissable and I hope this review is seen by management and big improvements are made. Try the "White Hart" in Poole, theirs are superb!
brilliant food, friendly staff and even better prices.
