Travel back in time and enjoy some medieval entertainment with the Queens Jubilee Joust Leeds. As well as a spectacular show of horsemanship, there'll be medieval court entertainment including fire performers and a court jester.
Bank Holiday FunThe jousting drama takes place over three days, with heats on Saturday and Sunday before the tense Queens Jubilee Joust Leeds semi-final and final on Bank Holiday Monday where the winner will take home the Queens Jubilee Cup. The event takes place in the Tiltyard gallery at the Royal Armouries Museum and, although entry to the site is free, tickets must be bought for the jousting tournament. The contest is hugely popular, so booking is advised.
Noble JoustingTraditionally, the aim of the game was to knock seven bells out of your opponent or, if you were really good, knock him off his horse with a whack of your lance. These days, it's a little more civilised and the Queens Jubilee Joust Leeds is governed by strict rules, so competitors don't get any points for knocking theirr opponent to the ground.
KnightsAlthough it's not as bloodthirsty, this modern take on the medieval sport is just as thrilling. The 'knights' still have to charge at each at full pelt and there's an audible crack when their lances make contact. All competitors are extremely accomplished horsemen, and have considerable strength in order to stay upright and wield their lance. The Queens Jubilee Joust Leeds will be an impressive display of horsemanship plus kids can see a real knight and his steed in action.
Lord FlameIf the jousting doesn't manage to hold your attention, there's lots of other entertainment on offer during the Queens Jubilee Joust weekend. There'll pyrotechnic displays from fire performers, knights on bikes, circus acts and Lord Flame, a medieval jester. All the competitors will be wearing the traditional medieval knight armour and, although it's an entertaining show, the joust is taken seriously and is not just put on for the entertainment of the crowd.
The Queens Jubilee Joust takes place at the Royal Armouries Museum from 12.15pm - 4pm, 29th August - 31st August 2009. Tickets for the semi finals cost £5, and for the finals cost £6.50. TO buy tickets click on the link below.Royal Armouries Official Site
