The ViewLeeds Review
As the name suggests, the Hub is pretty much in the centre of the surprisingly good cluster of bars in Chapel Allerton. Though lacking originality The Hub is a pleasant bar, in the day and night.
The Venue
Yet another offspring of the Arc Inspirations chain, the Hub hosts the same but ever popular features - fresh decor with clean, crisp mahogany wood furnishings, laminated flooring and dark leather sofas. Soft lighting adds to the fashionable appearance; a cool place to hang out whether that be for food or drink, day or night.
The Hub is fresh and well looked after and remarkably tidy, even on busy Saturday nights. However, the commerciality of all the outlets of the Arc chain results in a somewhat lack of character. Nevertheless this bar definitely satisfies those looking for a quiet pint or pre-drink before heading off to a club.
There are approximately eight ‘hubs’ - large tables surrounded by soft leather seats, which look particularly comfy with candles adding to the relaxed atmosphere. However, these are quickly snapped up by drinkers who are fortunate enough to be there first.
Several plasma TVs sit above the bar and they usual show football or rugby. Toilets are remarkably clean and stylish with lots of mirrors, plants and lots of available loo roll which is always a plus!
The People
The crowd sticks to the established dresscode of smart-casual. Jeans and trainers wouldn’t be out of place here but most people choose to dress a bit smarter. In the Hub you'll find young (25+) professionals, chilling out after work with friends and colleagues.
There's a noticeable buzz in the place, everyone is busy drinking and chatting over the music which is played quietly in the background. Most people are part of large groups of friends or work colleagues but the fact that the venue is reasonably small and gets quite busy means it’s easy to find yourself chatting to someone new.
Beware, because of the bar's limited size overcrowding is common on busy Friday and Saturday nights. However, the young and friendly bar staff appear to be well trained as drinks are made fast and queuing time is short.
The Food and Drink
The food menu is the standard and pretty much widespread bar type, with the main focus being on the 2-4-1 gourmet burger deal. However there is also other food available such as sandwiches and salads. The bar also boasts that the food is as locally sourced as possible. The food isn’t an extraordinary delight, but it does do the trick at a reasonable price.
Drinks are varied. There's an exciting and delicious cocktail menu, with the average price tag of around £5.50 to £6 and you can get two cocktails for £6 from Sunday to Thursday. The extensive drinks menu is showcased with the many bottles of spirits and liqueurs spread neatly across the bar.
Champagne is on sale too with the maximum price tag being £60 with the cheapest being £45. A small glass of small red wine will cost you £3.50 with a pint costing on average around £3.
The Last Word
Not the best bar in Leeds or most memorable, but definitely worth a viewing. A stylish and trendy bar, great for a meal and evening drink with friends, a fine example of laidback socialising in an atmospheric environment.
