The ViewLeeds Review
Nestled in the terrace of Long Row, The Queen’s Arms is a quaint, familiar and friendly pub. But it's a bit on the small side.
The Venue
Walking in off the street, the stone whitewashed front makes this pub really stand out from the street's grey-faced buildings. But its miniscule beer garden, or passage, seems to set the standard for the pub's porportions.
The tiny L-shaped bar can be described as either homely or claustrophobic, depending on your perception of small spaces . You couldn't get a large group in here, or even a small group of large people, and the Queen's Arms is reminiscent of Doctor Who’s Tardis with its deceptive exterior.
The patio beer-garden at the back makes up for the lack of space somewhat, and there is a lit and heated smoking shelter.
The People
Bright young things who hang-out in nearby bars such as Bar Sixtytoo and Bar 166 give this place a wide-berth, even though both bars are within easy walking distance. Instead, ageing men line-up at the bar, clutching their beer tankards. But the regulars are a nice crowd, and the staff are always helpful.
The Drink
Unfortunately, the miniscule bar reflects the choice of drinks available. Those who like something a bit fancier than a bitter-top will be disappointed, and the nearest thing to a cocktail is a lager and blackcurrant. However, The Queen’s Arms is a pub that caters well for its clientele.
The Last Word
The Queen's Arms is a typically sleepy pub that attracts a socially sleepy crowd, and those in Horsforth who still have a pulse tend to avoid it.
