The Ship is a regular pub with no gimmicks, just friendly Loiners looking for an uncomplicated drink.

The Venue
The Ship is a regular pub and this is to its merit since there are all too many themed venues, sport bars, wine lounges and so on. This place is unpretentious and the back room is lined with wood and there are some stained-glass windows. There are traditional old tables and benches around three sides of the back room. The ceiling is also covered with wood and there's a corner with tall stools. There's not much else worth noting which is a good thing.

The People
The Ship doesn't pull any tricks to attract customers. The music is slightly loud but that is the only element that could potentially disturb you. It doesn't seem to bother the crowd of regulars. It's mostly older men but the pub is often half empty. There's an open mic night on Tuesday which brings in younger blood.

The Food and Drink
The menu is just as straightforward and is made up of simple pub grub with a couple of foreign dishes. You can stick to the traditional with Yorkshire pudding (£6) with liver and onions or whole Cumberland sausage ring and onion gravy. Quorn chicken burger (£5), chicken tortilla with Caesar salad (£5) and spicy chicken with salsa (£5) are more adventurous options.

You couldn't imagine that such a place has an elaborate drinks menu, right? And true to form The Ship keeps it really simple. They serve all the usual suspects plus Hobgoblin (£2.65), Corona, Tiger and San Miguel. They also have a decent wine list priced between £7 and 15 a bottle. They are all classics but you can pick a couple of Californian bottles, a Chablis Montmain Moreau and a Riesling from Germany if you feel like having something new.

The Last Word
Don't expect anything special from The Ship. It's just a regular pub with an honest menu and drink list. Afterall doing cocktails all the time is terribly boring!
