The ViewLeeds Review
The Three Horseshoes looks like the quirkiest place in Headingley, with a traditional appearance and old-worldly name, but there’s something missing from the Three Horseshoes - a soul.
The Venue
Yes, the place lacks character, big time. When you walk in, you can't help but feel that you've walked into the wrong place.
That seemingly traditional, old-fashioned facade promised so much more. Unfortunately the interior’s original features have been replaced in favour of a more contemporary feel, possibly in a bid to attract a younger crowd.
What's patently obvious is that whatever they set out to achieve, this can surely not have been it, because what they've created is a middle-of-the-road pub that's in the middle of a road to nowhere.
The People
Despite dreadful decor, the Three Horseshoes does have something going for it - the staff. They'll give you a warm welcome, even if you aren't a regular, which is a bit rare in 'local' pubs. But if you're expecting a buzzing environment you should probably give this pub a miss, it's quiet, a bit too quiet.
The Food and Drink
The bar menu is there because they'd be missing a money-making trick if it wasn’t, simple as that. The food on offer is basic and honest though, and that's all you need in a pub like this.
There's a decent-ish selection of beverage, and no matter what your taste you'll find (eventually) something to your palate’s preference.
Just don’t expect anything too grand as the wine menu's boldest offering is a two-year-old vintage, and the closest you'll get to a cocktail will be a cheeky vimto. But the prices are fair.
The Last Word
Despite the obvious design flaws, and lack of character, the Three Horseshoes does have something to offer - genuinely nice people and no attitude.
