Hands down one of the best Thai restaurants in the country never mind Leeds. Been to Thailand and lived all overcthe world and this is one of the best. The one review on here with 1 star I find incredible and suspicious. The menu is extensive so if you are new to Thai it may be a bit intimidating but that's half the fun. Excellent can't praise highly enough.
Yes it's good. Cannot yet comment on whether it's the best in Leeds.
Firstly - all Thai staff - get's a plus from me (and Thai wife!).
I hate it when you get adenoidal Brits or peripatetic asians, who don't know the food when you want some extra condiment like prik nam plaa.
Quick and charming service.Secondly - good range of dishes - all the standards plus some I have not seen before which I shall look forward to trying.
One, a mix of chicken and pork livers sounded delicious, but only saw it after ordering
Thirdly - portion size and price. We had too much to eat with 4 dishes, costing £30 without (optional) service.
This included one botle of water and one Chang thai beer. [Chang is quite nice when it's reduced down to 5% for the UK from the normal 6.4%!].
Would have cost me double that in my favourite London Thai.
Fourthly - quality cooking and ingredients. Some Thai restaurants do som tam with a substitute for malakor (pappaya). Not this one.
All the food looked great and tasted lovely/authentic. Say yes to 'do you want Thai style' if you like it spicy and authentic. I don't know whether they ask non-Thais though.
We ate:Som tam (papaya, tomato, green beans, chilis, peanuts cold salad) - authentically fiery
Som talay (same but substitute mixed seafood for peanuts) - delicious and with many lage pieces of seafood, although we meant to order Yam talay
Prik Gai Tod Gaeng (lightly deep fried chicken breast slices in a creamy red curry sauce - huge portion and one my Thai wife had not eaten before in Thailand, she was impressed
Tom Yam Phlamuek (Thai signature disk - usually with fish or mixed seafood - we ordered squid) - this one was ok, but not the best of its kind I've had and is a small dish priced accordingly.
The mushrooms were the soggy English variety!
best thai food in leeds by a long shot. I have also lived in Thailand and this easily the most authentic tastiest Thai food I have had in the UK. It even beats some of the better Bangkok Thai restaurants hands down. Highly reccomended.
Brilliant. The best Thai food in Leeds by a long shot. "Sukhothai changed our lives!! after eating at Sukhothai it's all we want to eat! By far the best Thai restaurant in the UK and maybe the world!! Amazing tastes, brilliant friendly fast and smiley service, beautiful, relaxing surroundings. You will not regret a meal out there!" The second we walked in it felt welcoming. We had no table reservation but within five minutes were seated and it was a Saturday night. The large choice of food and price really shocked us. We had read online fantastic feedback about the place. (apart from the one below that is?)The staff were so ready to please and service was swift not having to wait for ages to order drink. The place was full and all the customers seemed to be really happy. The food was for me and my partner truly amazing. As we left nearly every staff member said goodbye and as we walked away we both said we will defenitely be going back there again.Thankyou Sukhothai for restoring my faith in eating out again."
I only had takeaway here so don't know if the eat in food is better, but the food we had was inedibly bad. I lived in Thailand for 6 months so I know what should be expected.
We had a green and a masaman curry and they both tasted pretty similar. There was not enough flavour (hard to achieve in Thai cooking) and both dishes were way too sweet.
I have eaten in most of the Thai restaurants in Leeds, and this is by far the worst of the lot.
