The ViewLeeds Review
The Original Oak is a favourite with students, and with the biggest beer garden in Headingly and its famous summertime barbecues, it's clear to see why.
The Venue
The Oak is an impressively sized pub (but not nearly big enough to accommodate all that love socialising there) that sits in notably large gardens. It has two large bar areas, and with wooden flooring throughout it maintains a traditional yet timeless feel.
The lower floor is host to a tap-room-style bar area, with a larger, more open plan upper floor bar which opens up to a sprawling beer garden with an abundance of seating.
Another feature is the heated outdoor smoking area which is sympathetically set up undercover.
The People
There’s rarely a pub to be found like this one, and the Original Oak has it all when it comes to having the best drinking atmosphere, especially in the summer.
Customers have been known to travel that bit further to get a sunny spot in the beer garden. An added bonus to the great vibe in the pub is the accommodating staff. But if you're planning to have a silly night out that involves dressing up then don't head here, the doorstaff will refuse you entry.
The Food and Drink
There's a standard bar menu served throughout lunchtime to early evening. The food is simple but good quality so if a light bite is all you're after then the Original Oak doesn't disappoint.
The bar is quite standard, in that it doesn’t specialise in any particular drink such as real ales or cocktails, but the good value draught and bottled beer, and wine make up for this.
The Last Word
This is the ideal place to start a night out before venturing into town, or to spend a lazy summer evening outside with friends and a bottle of wine.
