The ViewLeeds Review
The Bengal Brasserie is a gem waiting to be discovered. You don't expect to find a busy, buzzy restaurant in an otherwise residential area, but find it you do, with the door politely held open and a hand ready for your coat.
The Venue
It sits away from its Kirkstall competitors, on Haddon Road, a mere five minute walk from the cinema complex, and is well worth the extra leg work. The interior is luxurious and golden. You step from the drizzly street into an intimate setting of glass tables and delicate, stylish touches.
The Atmosphere
The staff have natural camaraderie, emerging from the kitchen with trailing banter and big grins. Best of all, the waiters are genuinely pleased to see you. You instantly become one of the bunch, welcomed like an old friend.
You’re neither rushed nor ignored, making it hard to make a move for the door at all. They encourage you to relax at your leisure, however long into the evening that may be.
The Food
The menu is expansive and detailed and, if in doubt, the staff are at hand to recommend and elaborate. You will struggle to find an Indian restaurant with a larger variety of starters and dishes, leaving you simply spoilt for choice.
The award-winning chef is happy to concoct something from your desired ingredients, or prepare a meal that’s missing. It’s the fine details and additions on the menu that really make the Bengal Brasserie stand out.
The korma (£4.95) is a popular dish that is rarely a perfect hit with the taste buds. Here the favorites arrive with tantalizing presentation and full flavour every time, having yet to disappoint. The cooking is considered and exact, never too sweet, never too sour. Rather conveniently, the full menu is available as a takeaway option.
The Drink
The Bengal Brasserie know how to keep their customers coming back, and it’s not only the food that delights. They regularly offer a complimentary round of drinks for the table with the bill, and not just house white. You’re encouraged to order what you wish, and casually wind down.
They have your average selection of wines and spirits but, to be honest, it’s not the drink you’ll be bothered about.
The Last Word
The Bengal Brasserie is refreshing; a wanderers' wonder, a find for the most demanding taste buds.
