I would choose no star but it wont let me! Please do not eat here! We had a sit down chicken kebab in the restaurant area. All the environment/pots were dirty an sauce bottles where sealed up with their own sauce. The chicken we got wasnt even a kebab but just chicken chunks that looked like they were fried. It smelt as if it had been left for years rotting. The smell of it was horrendous and immediately when entered my mouth had to spit it out! The smell and tatse of the rotten meat will haunt me! I have no idea what they had done to the chicken to make it smell/taste so bad. There was four of us and we all got the same. God knows what it could of done to our body. Wouldn't even feed it a dog!

Interesting, ghee is a key ingredient in authentic Indian cooking, so some degree of greasiness is ninevitable.

Having squared the block from the Vicar Lane Travelodge, looking for an Indian carry out, it was with some trepidation that I entered Zam Zam's. Why 'trepidation'? Because the building frontage of 2 rooms (one kitchen/take-away counter, the other a functional, soul-less but clean dining area - a bit like a works canteen) is not all attractive.

Nevertheless, the price was right and my appetite, ravenous. A chat with the 'chef' led me to order a chicken madras + 3 chapatis. Whilst watching him prepare the meal I decided to eat-in.

Up came a plate FULL of seriously good food - subtly flavoured, visually appealing, and smelling divine - and an un-asked for jug of water. I've lived and travelled in the Far East and on the Indian sub-continent and the food here compared very well with the street food I'd eaten abroad.

The quality of the food more than compensated for the austere, but clean (I noted Zam Zam's displayed a four star food hygiene rating from the City Council) dining surrounds And, at £5.50, outstanding value. I even went back to the order counter to leave a tip - and me a Yorkshireman!!

Next time I'm in Leeds I'll definitely be heading back here.

Thanks, Guys.
