The ViewLeeds Review
Puro is one of the newest venues to open up shop in Call Lane and it promises to be one of the best. The VenuePuro has replaced the Fruit Cupboard and is the newest nightclub on Call Lane. The refurbishment is evident as it's all still in mint condition, a bit ice cool. Over its two floors there are two bars. There's lots of curved metal, long white couches, state-of-the-art lights and a series of disco balls.
Most of the venue is covered in pure white but the lights make certain areas look blue and the snowflake lights add another layer of colours to the many corners. The dancefloor acts as a canvas for the patterns projected by the lights. The tables of the lounge area downstairs have only two chairs to keep things intimate while the plasma screens adds to the ambience with music videos and abstract animations. And they have a trademark circular and floral pattern which appears along the walls.
The PeoplePuro is yet to make a final decision about which direction it wants to go in. For now they're being rather friendly with the door policy and you just have to look like you can dance to get in. Pretty girls with mini dresses and killer heels seem to have a better chance than most, as do well-groomed boys who don't look like they're going to start a fight. All in all, it's pretty standard club policy. It opens at around 10pm and closes at 4am. On Saturdays admission is £6 before 11:30pm, £8 before 1am and £10 after.
The MusicPuro has a classic sound. Their speakers play soul, R'n'B, hip-hop with the occasional appearance of bassline, UK garage and funky house. It's what you'd expect from a club like this, just like you expect the herds of fake tanned girls that this place seems to be a hit with. It's appealing to the masses so if you're a hard rock fan then it's best to head elsewhere.
The DrinkThere is glitz and there is the glamour and yet the prices aren't that high. A bottle of house wine will cost you £7 while a glass of champagne is £6. A gin and tonic is cheap at £2.50 and Corkys shots are a very affordable way of drinking through the night.
The Last WordDespite its tender age Puro already has the makings of a good night out. And if you get there soon you could be one of its trailblazers.
