Review byNatalie Anne Smith18/07/2008
This Smith and Jones’ pub showed all the promise of being the jewel in Yeadon’s crown. Yes it's very nice looking and a firm favourite with most but something’s amiss.

The Venue
Appearances may be deceptive. In the newest watering hole in Yeadon, located in the old Cinema/Bingo Hall, Aviator is spacious and very nicely turned out for its new purpose. It is conveniently located just opposite an ATM and next to a Chinese takeaway so if you're in for the long haul you're set.

There are nice leather booths and couches on both floors and with high, stained wood tables at the bar there’s an undeniably smart look about the place. And with plasma screens at every turn, a pool table and various gaming machines the entertainment is taken care of. For the boys at least.

The People
To say that this new business lacks character would be unfair. However the masculine look of the place, combined with the client base being representatively split between the sexes, there’s a sense of undeniable androgyny. Unlike the rest of the bars local in this small town, no local ethnocentrism can be sensed, this truly is a bar for all.

The Food
With a recent visit resulting in the purchase of a dry, chewy tuna steak and what must have been a jacket potato baked at least a day before serving it could be said that if you want a trip out for a nice meal then give Aviator a miss altogether. For simple pub grub on the spur of the moment, however, their wraps and burgers aren't bad.

The Drink
The usual applies with bottled and draught beers available and an array of spirits to boot. It's a bit disappointing that there’s not much to say about the drinks other than every so often they have good deals on bottled lager.

You could be forgiven for expecting a little bit more from this bar in terms of the beverages on offer however what is on offer is all most people in the area want in a pub. There are some decent prices on all of the drinks especially the real ales which guest in rotation.

The Last Word
The atmosphere in Aviator is nice however the food just can't be forgiven which is a big shame.
