TJ Woodhouse's Liberal Club, The Library, The Packhorse, Brudenell Social Club, Royal Park Cellars and the university
Indie bands, jazz groups and post-punk rockers are gathering for the fourth Brainwash Festival which this year coincides with Halloween. Tickets are available for the entire three-day event but if you have a prior engagement with a warlock on Halloween you can buy individual tickets for as little as £5.
Jaga Jazzist
The festival kicks off at TJ's Woodhouse Liberal Club with Jaga Jazzist and Diagonal. Jaga Jazzist are a 10-piece experimental jazz band from Norway whose first album A Livingroom Hush attracted critical acclaim on its release in 2002. Their appearance has ensured that Brainwash Festival tickets for Thursday are the most expensive of the three days. They're sharing the bill with Diagonal from Brighton, another progressive jazz band who mix up their improv with rock.
Rock
On the second day gigs are split between The Library and and The Packhorse and Brainwash Festival tickets give you entry to both. This is the night where rockers can thrash around the dancefloor while listening to the cream of Leeds indie/heavymetallers. Chickenhawk and fellow Leeds rockers Blacklisters are on the bill as are Bad For Lazarus. There's more rock from Electric Mud Generator and Leeds duo Castrovalva.
Pulled Apart By Horses
On Saturday the gigs are at the Brudenell Social Club and Royal Park Cellars. On the bill are South Wales rock band Taint, pop punk outfit Hot Club De Paris and Leeds favourites Pulled Apart By Horses. Singer-songwriter Fran Rodgers should bring some well-needed whimsy to the evening,. There's also performances from The Old Romantic Killer Band, Tubelord, We vs Death, Shoeface and Wonderswan.
University
Sunday takes place at Mine and Stylus at the university with a line-up that's bursting at the seams proving just how much talent there is in Leeds. Locals including The Rosie Taylor Project, These Monsters and The Horn The Hunt share the stage with performers from further afield including singer-songwriter Nancy Elizabeth from Manchester and Maybeshewill from Leicester.
Official Afterparty
If you're still in a party mood after Saturday's Brainwash Festival, you can head over to The Faversham which is hosting the official afterparty. As it's Halloween it has a spooky theme and all of the three rooms will be transformed with haunted house-style decor. Entertainment and music is from The Faversham's regular promoters Bad Sneakers. There's also Hammer Horror projections, apple bobbing and other freaky frivolity. The Halloween Horror Ball afterparty starts at 11am and goes until 3am.
Charity Tickets
As well as seeing enjoying a weekend of some of the best bands in Leeds, you'll also be raising money for charity. Each year the festival donates some of their profits to charity and this year some of the proceeds from Brainwash Festival tickets are going towards Unicef, Leeds St Gemma's Hospice and Sheffield Children's Hospital. So far they have raised £5,000 for charity.
The Brainwash Festival takes place at TJ Woodhouse's Liberal Club, The Library, The Packhorse, Brudenell Social Club, Royal Park Cellars and the university from 29th October - 1st November 2009. Tickets for all three days are £22.50, Thursday £15, Friday £5, Saturday £9 and Sunday £13.50. To buy Brainwash Festival Tickets click on the link below.
