Leeds and surrounding areas

Spooky houses, enchanted woods and medieval abbeys are the best places for a seriously scary Halloween. Leeds events in October take place in these atmospheric buildings with ghost hunts, outdoor theatre and plenty of family fun.

Dr Terror
Where spookier to spend Halloween than at Fort Nelson? For All Hallow's Eve the Royal Armouries are hosting four days of activities in the tunnels underneath the Fort. Join Dr Terror for a tour of the Fort's chambers, or take part in craft activities including making an executioner's mask and axe. There's also Halloween storytelling and other creepy activities.

Theatre
At Stockeld Park there's a whole host of Halloween activities for the family including theatre workshops run by Theatrebugs where children can have the chance to perform a spooky tale and there's also storytelling throughout the half term week. But for something seriously scary, dress up and head to the Stockeld Park's Fright Night at the Enchanted Wood. Spectres and spirits lurk in these woods and there's no better night to spot them than Halloween. However, if you have very little children they may prefer the Theatre In The Woods event where Theatrebugs will be performing a spooky interactive tale in the Enchanted Woods

Spooktacular
Some of the city's grandest buildings are inviting in spirits of all ages for some family fun this Halloween. Leeds events include the Halloween Spooktacular at Temple Newsam. Entered the dark mansion dressed in your spookiest outfit and go on a haunted hunt for tricks and treats. And at Lotherton Hall you can make a creepy mask ready for Halloween.

Golden Chalice
Kirkstall Abbey have ghost tours and children's activities throughout October. Children can embark on a haunted hunt for the Golden Chalice. Not all Halloween Leeds events will make you jump out of your skin. If you're worried that your children may be scared by the Halloween high jinx, but you don't want them to miss out, head to Lancaster Castle. Here you'll find Halloween tours which are tailored to either children or adults. These costumed tours take in some of the darker depths of the castle.

Halloween Events Leeds take place on or around 31st October 2009.
