The ViewLeeds Review
Within the walls of this dark little watering-hole there isn’t much of a buzz, or enough light, but some have made it their regular haunt. Its location should result in a roaring trade, more the Woolpack has more of a grumble than a roar. The VenueThe Woolpack, or Wooly, is rather old fashioned in appearance, and doesn't have the sort of contemporary cool needed to attract a young, vibrant crowd. Instead, its rustic flagstone floor and traditional-style look gives it a very homely tap-room feel.
The Woolpack has a large beer garden that's decorated with gorgeous hanging baskets, and it's something that has customers flocking throughout the summer months (despite the ugly view of the roadside). Another attraction is the big-screen plasma TVs, which often show the big matches.
The PeopleDespite the local look of pub, the regulars aren’t unwelcoming. The staff are also very friendly. Those in search of a bit of atmosphere should avoid this one though, as it isn't a rockin' fun pub.
The Food and DrinkFor a non chain-pub, the size of the menu is rather impressive. The standard of the food served is pretty average though, and perhaps they've put quantity before quality, like many pubs. For a quick bite to eat however, you can't go far wrong. And like many pubs, emphasis has been placed on popular pub meals such as burger pies. They're nothing special, and are obviously cooked from frozen.
To make up for the decidedly average food, the Woolpack could have pushed the boat out with the drinks. And with its nearest competition, The Station, being well-over a stone's throw away, they have real scope to make the pub stand out from the crowd. Instead, they serve a very run-of-the-mill selection, which is a great shame.
The Last WordPossibly the blandest of Yeadon pubs, The Woolpack isn’t the place to take your friends for a night out. However, for a quiet lunchtime drink, the blandness may serve to be just the tranquility needed to accompany a drink or two.
