The ViewLeeds Review
It has been a long time coming but now Strada sits proudly among the Greek Street gastronomic heavyweights. The VenueGleaming in the modern glass fronted space previously occupied by Ask, Strada is relatively new to Leeds but it's positioned itself right in the heart of the action and is right where it should be. Opposite from Wagamama and next to the Living Room, it's sure to become a Greek Street favourite.
The AtmosphereYou always know what to expect in Strada but this, unlike in a lot of other Italian chains, doesn’t pose a problem. The staff are young and friendly with a bias towards Italian personnel, which creates a fun and energetic ambience.
The clientele ranges from couples peacefully ending a hard day's shopping to large groups kicking off a momentous night out. The noise is turned up a level the later it gets, all adding to the enjoyment of the meal and the vibe among clientele and staff.
The FoodStrada has long been producing good Italian food to cater to the customer who wants a little bit more from a high street restaurant.
Although fairly reasonable, it can get a bit pricey if you plunge in for three courses and a nice bottle of wine, especially if you opt for a main from the attractive secondi section (prices from £10 to £20). Dishes include lamb shank, in a balsamic tomato sauce with sage potato puree for £13.50.
Everything else is as you’d expect, with a versatile range of pizzas, pastas and risottos (£7 to £11) along with a great selection of Italian breads. A pizza bread with pesto and tomato comes in at £3.95. Starters are hearty and worth a try.
Desserts are excellent and not to be missed if you can fit one in. The pannacotta is splendid and costs £4.95.
The DrinkA good selection of wines from red, white and rose, are on offer. Order by both the glass and the bottle for the cheaper options and by the bottle for the more expensive.
They have Italian Prosecco which is beautiful but a little expensive at £25 a bottle. The house wines are fine starting from around £13. Beers are around £3.50.
The Last WordGood Italian food with a friendly, snappy atmosphere, Strada is to Italian food what Wagamama is to Asian food, well turned out and extremely satisfying.
