The ViewLeeds Review
The Emmott Arms is a quaint, homely pub in the somewhat rural village of Rawdon, eight miles north west of Leeds city centre. However, with an old-style tap room, complete with dart board and dominoes, it would be easy to believe you were a million miles from Leeds. The VenuePicture your grandmother’s living-room and that pretty much sums up the main bar in the pub. It’s a cosy, intimate and traditionally decorated pub. However, the down-point to this look would be the rather faded and worn appearance of the place. Some might say it's rustic, others would say it's tatty. You can enjoy this pub in the summer, whiling away the balmy evenings in the beer garden, which is very peaceful despite the adjacent cricket club and football field.
The PeopleBeing slightly off the beaten track means the Emmott Arms attracts the more mature local people of Rawdon and not many younger people seem to drink here, opting for the local towns of Horsforth, Yeadon or Guiseley. It’s by no means dead though, and its light-hearted and friendly atmosphere makes it always a good choice for drinks with friends.
The Food and DrinkThe food served here is not what the Emmott Arms is famed for and with a small and not exactly cheap menu, it is not to be recommended for a meal out. If you want great pub food, you would do a lot worse than taking a trip down the road to the Stansfield Arms in Apperley Bridge where spending a little more on food is far better justified.
The Emmott Arms is part of the Sam Smith brewery so the drink is very reasonably priced and is probably the cheapest in the area for miles around. This is, however, at the cost of variety. Popular brands are substituted for the house equivalent, for example Guiness is replaced by a very bitter stout. The more favourable spirit brands also take a backseat here, with a limited choice with all types.
The Last WordThis pub is well-loved for reasons other than drink. It's convenient location and welcoming atmosphere make it unique, both in drinks served and all round atmosphere, and it's well worth a visit.
